These guys score 50 points for a gryffindor+hufflepuff mashup for adorableness and a steinway.

Satisfaction | Allen Stone
Proper indie, no rep, no label and on tour and performing on Jimmy Kimmel… Respect. Also, he’s got oodles of soul.

This is a laid back South African band made up of a jazz vocalist, bassist and a Nigerian drummer. The float around in smooth electro-jazz, neo-soul…I’m sure there was some skatting in one of the songs-in Zulu. They are awesome, and will deliver as they get more love. Free download. Talk them up!
Time is a Train | Nasimiyu Murumba
This New Orleans singer-songwriter is on my radar because of her very Kenyan name to be honest, but after because her music is pretty eclectic. There are so many textures and flavours in each song, soul, jazz, blues, disco…It’s like history made a music baby. Also, rad hair.

When I started this tumblog, I simply wanted to bookmark all of my favorite new finds that speak to me, without limiting myself to my own country, but also limiting it to my experience. It therefore pleases and surprises me to find that many of the people that added me to their follow list are in fact, Kenyan, like me. So we really do have the same hunger for the music that transcends long legs and auto tune.
I look out for the people that, in this media saturated world, surprise and keep me in awe. Thanks for taking this journey with me.
